A German retail giant is opening a new department store taking over the former Allders site and creating 300 new jobs.
Two floors of the former department store will be transformed into Croydon Village, after Metro AG the fourth largest retailer in the world, agreed a deal with site landlords Minerva.
The new store is expected to open in September and the outlet will feature both retail units and a food hall.
The company, based in?D?sseldorf, Germany,?has already started recruiting staff for a range of roles, with recruitment stalls on site at Allders today (Saturday) until 4pm.
Minerva have been trying to fill the site since the historic department store Allders closed last September, after 150 years trading in North End.
News of the retail outlet comes six months after Westfield and Hammerson announced a ?1 billion redevelopment of the Whitgift Centre.
