McCann Invests $4M in Israeli Incubator ?thetime?

thetimeWith a $4M investment, McCann Worldgroup has bought a 15% stake in Israeli incubator 'thetime'. This move isn't a particularly surprising considering 'thetime' was founded by Ilan Shiloah, who for the past 10 years has been chairman of McCann Erickson Israel. 'thetime' was also co-founded by angel investor, Nir Tarlovsky. Uri Weinheber, previously of Lab One, acts as the incubator's CEO.

Ask Engadget: best 'money is no object' laptop?

Image

We know you've got questions, and if you're brave enough to ask the world for answers, here's the outlet to do so. This week's Ask Engadget inquiry is coming to us from Chris, who simply has too much money to blow on a super-laptop. If you're looking to send in an inquiry of your own, drop us a line at ask [at] engadget [dawt] com.

"I sold my business and I want to replace my laptop [HP Pavilion G6] with a completely unreasonably expensive top of the line machine. I want it to do everything I do (gaming, coding, web design) all at the same time. Apart from the fact I need two hard drive bays, I'm completely open-minded, so what should I be buying? Thank you!"

Quell your gnashing teeth, members of the 99 percent, he's done well for himself and now he needs our help. We were able to trick out an Alienware M18x to full capacity for $6,700 -- with an over-clocked 4GHz Intel Core i7 CPU, 32GB of RAM, two 2GB NVIDIA GTX 675M GPUs in SLI mode and 1.2TB of SSD RAID storage. That's the benchmark, folks: who out there can find something more powerful?

Meghan McCain Rips Greta Van Susteren for Inviting Lindsay Lohan to White House Dinner

Meghan McCain bashed Fox News' Greta Van Susteren on Twitter Friday for inviting Lindsay Lohan to this weekend's White House Correspondents' Association dinner.

Not just for the sake of hating on Lohan, a la Rosie O'Donnell.

“Let me get this straight,” Meghan McCain, 27, tweeted. “Greta Van Susteren is bringing Lindsay Lohan to the WHC Dinner but has a moral offense to Louie C.K?”

In March, Van Susteren called for a boycott of the Radio/TV Correspondence Dinner over comedian C.K.'s past controversial statements about women.

"The headliner of this year’s Radio and Television Correspondents Dinner is “comedian” Louis C.K. Comedian? I don’t think so. Pig? yes," she wrote.

"He uses filthy language about women. Yes, the C word…and yes, even to describe a woman candidate for Vice President of the United States. It isn’t just Governor Palin he denigrates. He denigrates all women and looks to the crowd to laugh."

Apparently Megs isn't offended ... except by Greta. The daughter of U.S. Sen. John McCain may not be crazy about Lindsay attending, but she's still going.

The Republican blogger, columnist and author Tweeted that she's "headed to DC for the nerd prom." Just hope they don't seat her with Greta or LiLo.

Rap Fire Starter Joe Cool Just Wants The 'Fame'

The Vernon Parish, Louisiana, MC didn't have Lil Wayne or Boosie connections, so he made his own way.

Fire Starter: Joe Cool
There weren't any local rap heroes for Vernon Parish, Louisiana, MC Joe Cool to pattern himself after, but that didn't deter the 23-year-old upstart. He was too far from New Orleans to have any Cash Money connection, and hip-hop hot spot Baton Rouge wasn't exactly nearby, so Joe just looked to his close buddies for support. And now it is all starting to pay off.

"I started rapping when I was like 15. All my friends rapped — I was just chillin' in the background. I used to make funny songs and stuff," Joe told Mixtape Daily during a February interview.

It was those "funny" little songs that then turned into hooks for more-developed local rappers. But at the urging of a friend, Mr. Cool decided to take his craft a bit more seriously. "I just kept going, and by the time I hit high school, I was like, this is something I want to pursue," he said.

Joey dropped his first project, Mixtape for No F---in' Reason, in March 2011 and then followed up with his most recent, Cooley Hi, at the top of this year. The majority of the tape is self-produced, a skill that JC picked up by necessity at a young age.

"By the time I hit 16, I really couldn't find all of the beats that I wanted to go over, so I just started trying to make my own beats," he explained.

The rap rookie is still climbing up the hip-hop ranks — he performed a few sets at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, last month — but he still has a way to go. On "Fame," one of the tracks off of Cooley Hi, the Young MC ponders the money and recognition that awaits him. It's not that he is trying to be a prima donna, he just believes in himself that much.

" 'Fame' was pretty much me feeling like I just know I'm supposed to be here. It's waiting for me," he said.

A Rare Sale: Despite 30 Million Activations In The Last Year, Google Sends SketchUp To Trimble

Screen shot 2012-04-26 at 12.16.00 PMGoogle is prolific when it comes to its in-house production, churning out new ideas and products all the time, and the company isn't afraid to pull the plug if the idea doesn't pan out. In fact, CEO Larry Page said in his "Update From The CEO" earlier this year that Google has shuttered or combined 30 products since April 2011. But this morning found Google making a relatively unusual move, announcing not a closure, or a purchase, but a sale(!). The product, called SketchUp has become one of the most popular 3-D modeling tools in the world, with over 30 million activations of the program in 2011. And today, Google announced that the SketchUp team and technology will be leaving the Google campus to join Trimble Navigation, for an undisclosed sum.

Business-minded HP 'Slate 8' tablet surfaces in leaked image

Image

This one is still very much unconfirmed, but a "trusted source" recently provided Neowin.net with the image you see above, which purports to be a mockup of a forthcoming business-minded tablet from HP dubbed the Slate 8. That's obviously a Windows 8 tablet and, if the details are to be believed, you can expect a 10.1-inch display, eight to ten hours of battery life, optional pen-based input, a docking station of some sort, an outdoor viewing option and a number of business-friendly security measures -- all in a package that's 9.2mm thick and about 1.5 pounds. Adding some weight to leak is ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley, who hasn't been able to confirm it outright, but says that after a bit of investigation she is "inclined to believe this is a real mock-up and is part of HP's line up of business desktops and laptops it will be touting this year."
