UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez will likely defend his title against rival Junior dos Santos in Houston. UFC president Dana White made the announcement about the event, dubbed UFC 166, at today?s?UFC 161?media day.
Both Velasquez and Dos Santos are coming off victories at this past May?s UFC 160. Velasquez destroyed Antonio ?Bigfoot? Silva for the second time in last outing, finishing the bout with powerful striking and elbows. Dos Santos punched his ticket to a rematch with a ?Fight of the Night? performance victory over Mark Hunt.
The two heavyweight kingpins have faced off twice before, with Dos Santos winning the first exchange at UFC on FOX 1 and Velasquez defeating Dos Santos at UFC 155 this past December.
The UFC last traveled to Houston for UFC 136, where then-lightweight champion Frankie Edgar defeated Gray Maynard via knockout and UFC featherweight champion Jos? Aldo defeated Kenny Florian. The 2011 event was held at the Toyota Center, making the location the most-likely venue for the October fight card.
An official announcement of UFC 166 will likely be made in the coming days.
