OU Baseball: Sooners beat Baylor 7-2, advance to Big 12 championship game

Oklahoma needed none of its previous Big 12 Tournament drama Saturday, no ninth-inning magic acts.

Making his first appearance of the week, the Sooners designated hitter crushed two long home runs, staking OU to an early lead in a decisive 7-2 win.

Oberste, in and out of the lineup much of the season, drilled a three-run shot to in the second inning for a 3-0 Sooner lead, then launched a solo shot in the fourth that landed inside the parking garage beyond left field at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Now 38-21 overall and 5-0 against the regular-season conference champion Bears, OU advances to Sunday?s 1 p.m. championship game opposite the Missouri-Kansas winner.

This will be the Sooners? first title game appearance since 1997, when they won the Big 12?s inaugural tournament.

Max White added a two-run double for the Sooners, who banged out eight hits ? five for extra bases ? off five Baylor pitchers. While the OU offense enjoyed its power surge, Jonathan Gray controlled the game from the mound. The sophomore right-hander struck out six over 7 2/3 innings, allowing six hits.

Except from a fourth-inning solo homer to Baylor?s Josh Ludy, Gray cruised until showing signs of tiring in the eighth.
